From my experience(2001 TD SE Auto), the transmission fluid (the dreaded gold-plated, diamond-crusted TQ95) probably needs topping up or possibly changing.
- Problems like this seem to be unusual - mine used to slam down from 4 to 3 which at 60 mph is a bit unnerving!
- But I think the fluid is your first check - but you'll have to search about to find some.
- Whatever you do, do NOT use any other fluid - you'll be buying a new box if you do (plenty of info about that in the forums!).

I paid a dealer to drain and refill about 5 years ago and they reported that it was dirty black when they did the changeover.

- There are threads about doing this... it's fill to overflow because you have no dipstick - time consuming but not too bad.

Check for vacuum leaks as well - I have an after market cruise control and a broken T-piece really confused it.

There is a Throttle Calibration procedure - I found it ages ago on a club thread and saved it on to a Word document.
- I will send it to you via pm. It can't hurt to try it.

btw: Mine is still hesitant after starting to engage forward or reverse - a little blip on the accelerator seems to make it "grab" the gear then it's fine.

If its not the fluid then you need to check the sensors - there are threads about this too.

Best of luck!

Esto es del foro ingles, le mande un pm al moderador para que me envíe ese documento por mail, pero en definitiva plantea lo mismo, posible problema de vacio o aceite.
